Job description - Hospital dancer - Ward 84!

From John on 23rd August 2017 Job description - Hospital dancer - Ward 84!

We had to renew our parking pass at RMCH, and so went on a trip to the management office at the other side of the hospital whilst we were waiting from bloods results and that days chemo to start. Here we met the lovely Tom, who managed the security passes for all the doctors and nurses and staff at the hospital. Gracie was her usual self, went straight up to him to introduce herself and started asking him questions on what his job was. To cut a long story short, Gracie ended up with her own security pass with job title "hospital dancer" which of course was her suggestion. This made her day and soon the whole ward, and pretty much everyone else got to know about this ( we did test it and no it didn't give us access to the whole hospital!) We made a card to say thank you to Tom and took it down the following day, he was delighted with this. Later that week, when we arrived for treatment, a rather official looking man was waiting for us on Daycase. I could hear him talking to one of the nurses and asking if he could come and speak to us. Straight away, I thought, shit..... they're going to take the pass away as it's against security policy. How the hell was I going to get round this one with Gracie, who hadn't taken the pass off all week and was still proudly prancing round the ward trying to open doors etc! Anyway, the man was head of security and had asked if he could use the card, which had Gracie's picture on, in the hospital newsletter, to highlight the lovely thing Tom had done for Gracie, and how it had made her day. Of course, Gracie was delighted with this, and Tom won a prize for his gesture, which he very kindly donated to the ward. I remember the next meeting we had with Guy, he said "I believe you are now famous" to Gracie. The newsletter had gone out to the whole of Manchester trust hospitals! I remember the small smile on Guys face, i think she really amused him with what she managed to get up to whilst we were supposed to be on treatment! We don't have the pass now, Gracie took it with her, but I will never forget that small gesture that Tom did for her, and the impact it had on her and the whole of the ward.
